Manipur: Huge quantity of contraband drugs seized

Police in Thoubal district of Manipur have seized a huge quantity of contraband drugs during a raid in two houses, police said.

 

Four alleged drug peddlers were also arrested during the raid at the two houses at Lilong Tairenmakhong under Lilong police station, sharing a common courtyard, police added.

 

The seized contraband drugs were 5498 numbers of suspected Pseudoephedrine tablets, 807 pieces of suspected SP capsules, 1049 bottles of Bolirex (new Codeine containing cough syrups), 36 pieces suspected N-10 tablets.

 

Addressing a press conference at Lilong police station on October 11, SP Thoubal, Dr S Ibomcha Singh said that the raids at the two houses were conducted late last night, around 9:00 pm based on specific input of selling illegal drugs at the house of arrested one Md Abdur.

 

Volunteers of All Lilong Anti-Drug Association (ALADA) and ANJUMAN assisted the police in the raids conducted under the supervision of Lilong police OC, Oinam Ajit Singh, the police officer said.

 

He said that based on specific inputs, two teams of Lilong police with the volunteers of ALADA and ANJUMAN rushed to the houses of Md Momin Khan and Md Abdur, sharing the same courtyard.

 

The police cordoned off the two houses and first raided the house of Momin. During the search, the police detected the contraband drugs concealed inside a Syntax water reservoir in the kitchen of the house.

 

After that the police team conducted further search at the adjoining house belonging to Abdur where more contraband drugs were found inside an almirah in the bedroom. From the kitchen of the same house, the police recovered from drugs in a gunny bag kept in the kitchen of the house, the police officer said.

 

On further search in the front room of the house, the police detected a Syntax brand water reservoir embedded beneath the ground of the bed in the room where a large number of banned cough syrups were found stored.

 

The police arrested the owners of the two houses, Md Momin Khan and Md Abdur and in the follow up action, two more alleged drug peddlers Md Aziz and Md Nawaz Khan were arrested from their houses at Lilong Turen Ahanbi Boroi Makhong.

 

Lilong police has registered a case against the alleged drug peddlers. The SP appealed the general public to extend their support to the police in the drive against illicit drugs.

 

He said that the cooperation and support of the people was a must in realizing the state government’s commitment of making Manipur a drug free state.
