Imphal, February 13 (NNN): An unidentified person hurled a hand grenade at the office of a local newspaper office in Imphal Saturday evening. Fortunately, it did not explode. Denouncing the latest threat to the media house, All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) and Editors’ Guild Manipur (EGM) convened an emergency meeting at Manipur Press Club.
Soon after the failed bomb attack, members of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) and Editors’ Guild Manipur (EGM) converged at Manipur Press Club for an emergency meeting where it was decided that newspapers would not be published in the State on Sunday.
Reports said that the unidentified wearing a helmet and covering his/her face with a face mask hurled the Chinese hand grenade at the office of the Poknapham daily at Keishampat, Imphal on Saturday evening, around 6:30 pm. The grenade which did not explode was recovered by a team of police who rushed to the media house on being informed.
The reports said that the person came on a two-wheeler with no registration plate and he/she immediately left the spot after hurling the hand grenade toward the media house. It landed at the corridor of the office just near the main door.
The media house was yet to know the motive behind the bomb threat. Police have reportedly initiated an investigation to establish the attacker as well as the motive behind the bomb threat to media houses in Imphal.
