
Imphal, June 23 (NNN): Several organisations have endorsed the the 60-hour bandh in Manipur hill districts to be called from June 24 evening by Committee on Protection of Tribal Areas Manipur (COPTAM) in protest against the failure of the state government of Manipur to fulfill the "rightful and genuine demands". The bandh will begin from 5 pm of June 24 and concludes at 5 am of June 27. The Tadou Students Association of Chandel district, the Thadou Students Association of Sardar Hills and the Sardar Hills Chiefs Association have pledged to extend their support to COPTAM's hill district bandh. It may be recalled that on June 4, Committee on Protection of Tribal Areas Manipur (COPTAM) had threatened that if the state government fails to respond positively to its charter of demands by June 19 a drastic agitation will be launched.
COPTAM has been demanding a charter of demands on the rectification of the state government policies on tribal rights which includes, inter alia, forest rights, census issue, district boundaries, land record, village authority and district council amendment acts, etc.
