MOKOKCHUNG, JUNE 24 (MExN): On December 7, 1987, the United Nations declared to annually observe June 26 as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking “as an expression of its determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse.” In line with the UN declaration, the Mokokchung Police in collaboration with the ABAM (Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang), AKM (Ao Students' Conference) and other organisations will organise a marathon run in the town on June 26. Themed ‘Run for Mokokchung free from drugs and narcotic substances’, the Mokokchung police in a press release stated that the purpose of the marathon is “to create awareness amongst the citizens, especially the youth against drug abuse and also to encourage them to choose a healthy, fitness focussed lifestyle rather than drugs.” “We should be high on health and not drugs!” stated the release issued by the SDPO, Mokokchung town. Seeking the support of the public, the organisers invited the citizens of the town to be part of the “Run against drug abuse.”
