Kohima, May 17 (MExN): Zeliangrong Baudi Kohima (ZBK) has demanded befitting punishment for the accused of the May 12 attempted rape in Kohima. It demanded the accused to be booked and charged for kidnapping, molestation, attempt to rape and murder. In a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, ZBK demanded that the accused Neitsu Angami should not be released on bail under any circumstances and the vehicle used in the crime, which has been seized by the police, should not be released too. The Baudi also asked to grand adequate compensation to the victim.
According to the memo, on May 12 around 12:30 pm, the 22-year-old victim had hired a private taxi bearing registration number NL-01H/9943 from High School Junction, Kohima to go to NEILIT, Mereima to collect a form. After getting the form, the driver of the taxi (the accused) on the pretext of avoiding the traffic and taking a shortcut, took different route towards the jungle below IG Stadium, it alleged. He stopped the vehicle in a secluded area and started misbehaving with the victim inside the vehicle. She tried to get out of the vehicle, but he pulled her inside the vehicle, the memo said. When the victim screamed for help, the letter stated, the accused “covered her mouth with his hands and strangled her neck and attempted to rape her and threatened to kill her if she does not comply with his demand.”
In her struggle to free from the accused, the victim sustained multiple severe bruises and injuries on her neck, back of her body, hands and legs, it was stated. The Baudi further recounted that the victim finally managed to unlock the door of the vehicle and ran to the nearest houses and got help.
The victim has lodged an FIR registered as Kohima (N) PS C/No. 0037/16, U/S 354 A(1)(i)(ii)IPC.

NMA, NAYO denounce incident
DIMAPUR: The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) and Northern Angami Youth Organisation (NAYO), in separate press statements on Tuesday strongly denounced the alleged attempt of rape and murder of a 22-year-old Naga girl by one Neitsü Angami on May 12, 2016 near IG Stadium. Viewing the crime seriously, the NMA demanded stringent action by according non-bailable warrant against the accused so that law-enforcing agency may award him befitting punishment as per law. It also implored upon the investigating agencies for impartial investigation so that the accused will be punished to the maximum. NAYO, while expressing disgust over the May 12 incident, said the organisation has full faith in the judiciary that it will award deserving punishment to the accused, “which in itself may never compensate the scars upon the victim, but ensure that criminals pay for their crimes.”
It also asserted that despite various logistic drawbacks, it would do all within its capability to ensure the “safety of all communities and people residing in Northern Angami land, be it in the rural or urban areas.”
Meanwhile, the NMA expressed shock over the report of one Mulevolü Vero who tortured her stepson of 3 ½ years and strongly condemned such act of extreme violence meted out by a mother.
While acknowledging the timely action taken by the Phek Village Mothers' Association (PVMA), the mothers’ association felt that every mother should ensure that “homes” are safe for the children and not otherwise. It also demanded that necessary punishment be awarded to the accused as per law so that such incidents do not occur again.
