Dimapur, June 7 (MExN): Concerned over increasing collection of “donations or taxes” from the business community which has become a “daily affair of some unions or groups”, the Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industries has called for a concerted effort to stop such practices throughout the state.
It further also called upon the Federation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industries to play a vital role for the safety of the entire business fraternity as well as consumers of the entire state of Nagaland.
Over reports of “unscrupulous extortion or over taxation” prevalent in Phek town, the MCCI noted that in order to check such incidents all right-thinking citizens must consider taking up the issue of indefinite closure of shops in Phek town seriously. At the same time, it appealed to all concerned group/groups of people including govt. agencies to also take up all necessary steps to avoid such a situation in future not only in Phek but in all big or small towns of the state.
The MCCI, in a statement appended by M R Rai and Bendang Walling, secretary info-Publicity, raising the issue of such collections all over the state by various groups cautioned against the impact of such practices. “It is being done without the knowledge of its impact on the common men’s economy because in this process they are also in the receiving end.” The MCCI further noted that such practices affect every one in society either directly or indirectly.
“Therefore the act of unscrupulous or over taxation is slowly but surely going to thwart the progress of a nation where everyone is involved directly or indirectly,” the MCCI stated.
