DIMAPUR, MAY 31 (MExN): The Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industries (MCCI) has requested the Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio, to take “serious and necessary steps” to upgrade the existing Tuli Rail Station.
In a letter sent to Rio through the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, the President of the MCCI, Moasangba Jamir explained, “Turning the existing railhead at Tuli into a full-fledged Railway Station will unleash an era of unprecedented economic development in Nagaland. Establishment of a full-fledged Railway Station at Tuli, as and when it happens, will be recorded in the annals of history as the primary cause of Nagaland’s economic miracle.” This task, he said, will not be “impossible” as basic infrastructure at the existing Tuli rail station is already in place. Currently, the Tuli railhead is serving as a coal depot from where coal extracted in the region is being transported to Assam and beyond, informed the President of MCCI.
The MCCI believes that the “umpteen blockades” imposed by various Assam-based organizations which cause “untold hardships” to the people of some parts of Nagaland will become a “thing of the past” once the Tuli Railway station becomes functional. Urging upon Rio’s “honourable office” to take up this cause with “strong political will and visionary leadership”, the MCCI made a request for the chief minister to “take up the matter personally even to the level of the concerned ministry of the Government of India.”
