DIMAPUR, MARCH 1 (MExN): The Muslim Council Dimapur (MCD) and the Dimapur District Truck Drivers Welfare Trade Union (DDTDWTU) have condemned the kidnapping and killing of a truck driver and his companion from Dimapur. A press note from the MCD President informed that the two persons, Atabur Rehman and his associate Abdus Sahid Choudhury of Khermahal, Dimapur were abducted by unknown miscreants near Manja last month and the family of the two persons received ransom calls. The MCD added that on February 27, the Assam Police recovered three dead bodies from the banks of the Diphu River, among which were the two missing persons from Dimapur. The MCD while “appreciating the efforts of Dimapur police in arresting few suspects,” expressed hope that the “whole gang of miscreants would be arrested and punished soon.” Meanwhile, the DDTDWTU also condemned the killing and urged law enforcing agencies to “leave no stone unturned to arrest the culprits. It further asked the Assam Police to cooperate and provide all assistance in apprehending the culprits.
