Mokokchung | April 24 : Mokokchung District Cricket Association (MDCA) played the Mokokchung Press Club (MPC) in an exhibition cricket match on April 23, Saturday at Imkongmeren Sports Complex. Organized and initiated by the MDCA, the exhibition match was played with the motive of fostering friendship between the two bodies as also their members.
While the MDCA team saw some of the district’s senior most and experienced cricketers along with MDCA officials on their side, the MPC had the Mokokchung based media persons trying out their sporting skills. Three guest players also joined the MPC team which included Chuba Walling, the DPRO Mokokchung, Temsu Jamir, proprietor of Mokokchung Channel and Moatuden Lemtur, EAC Mokokchung.
The match was played thirty overs a side. Electing to bat first after winning the toss, MDCA scored an imposing total of 245 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 30 overs. Taking advantage of the dreary MPC bowling attack, the much experienced MDCA batsmen sent the ball rocketing all over the park as they amassed 245 runs at the run rate of 8.1 per over. The MDCA opening duo, Tongpang and Imnayanger punished the MPC opening bowlers, Moasashi and Lawrence. Tongpang, after scoring a quick-fire 23 runs was finally caught by Senti Walling at short leg off Lawrence in the fourth over. He was replaced by Lanunungsang, another senior cricketer in Mokokchung, who went on to score 87 runs, the highest individual score in the match.
Despite lacking aggressiveness in their bowling attack, MPC managed to take 8 wickets with Lawrence claiming 4 wickets, Senti backing him by claiming two wickets, while Longrangty and Moasashi claimed a wicket each.
Exhibition cricket match bonds friendship
In response, the MPC run-chase took a slow start as their opening pair Moatuden and Limalenden struggled to negotiate with the pace attack of the MDCA opening bowlers. Moatuden was the first to fall after he edged a ball off Chuba and was caught at first slip by Sunep. Senti Walling (37), Limalenden (25) and Nungsang Jamir (25*) were the highest scorers for the MPC team.
Despite the respectable MDCA bowling attack, MPC managed to bat through the 30 overs innings with Chuba Walling, DPRO and Nungsang Jamir remaining not out at the end of the match. The MPC could manage to score 160 runs for the loss of 9 wickets and lost the match by 85 runs. Imnayanger of MDCA claimed 4 wickets while Tuden, Chuba and Tongpang claimed a wicket each. Two MPC wickets were lost via run outs, that of Moasashi and Temsu Jamir.
During the presentation ceremony, MPC presented a certificate to MDCA in appreciation of their effort rendered towards promotion of the game in the district. Man of the Match award, sponsored by Mokokchung Channel, was awarded to Imnayanger of MDCA for his haul of 4 wickets and his cameo of 31 runs.
