Zonipang Sporting Association today completely dominated the ground as they trashed Grand Elite’s 6-1 in the league matches of the ongoing MDFA Trophy 2017 at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung here today. Zonipang, which is one of the oldest sports associations in Mokokchung, is a crowd favourite and has some of the best players playing.
The first goal came in the 12th minute through Chubaangnen Imchen and a couple of minutes later, as the Grand Elite’s defense team tried to recover, Salu Kulim of Zonipang scored the second goal. Despite the early setback, the Grand Elite’s countered well scoring its first and only goal in the 24th minute through striker Mhonchumo Kikon.
But the second half was a different story altogether as Zonipang with a superb display at midfield put into disarray the Grand Elite’s defences. Zonipang striker Osenba was at his best striking home three goals in the 47th, 56th and 61st minute to become the first player of the tournament this year to score a hattrick. Imlitoshi added to the Grand Elite’s woes scoring the fourth goal in the 51st minute.
On the back of the day’s win, Zonipang could well be the toughest team in the tournament.
In the other matches today, SSS Yellow defeated Dominion Club 3-0 in Pool B. Yashimar scored the first goal in the first half with Imtimatsung and Toshiwapang following it up with the second and third goal. In the third match of the day, Arikotong prevailed over Alempang Youth Association 2-1.
