MDLSA conducts legal awareness seminar in Tuli

Tuli, October 22 (MExN): Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA) conducted legal awareness seminar at Kangtsung Senso Telongjem Tuli community hall on October 21.  

Students from Government Higher Secondary School, Chairmen of 9 wards, Watsu and students’ union attended the seminar.  

Speaking on role of Para Legal Volunteers, NALSA (Legal Services to Victim of Disaster Scheme, 2016), NALSA (Legal Services to Senior Citizens) Scheme, 2016, Phuleto Yeptho, JMFC and Secretary MDLSA apprised that the Para-Legal Volunteers Scheme is aimed at imparting legal training to volunteers selected from different walks of life to ensure legal aid reaches all sections of people.  

Para-Legal Volunteers (PLVs), he said, would be trained with basic knowledge of law and available welfare measures and legislations so that they would be able to counsel and amicably settle simple disputes at the source itself.  

Phuleto Yeptho informed that the objective of the NALSA (Legal Services to Victim of Disaster Scheme, 2016) is to provide legal services to the victims of disaster both manmade and natural by building a platform for early recovery through coordination with the Government departments and NGOs.  

He further highlighted that the NALSA (Legal Services to Senior Citizens) Scheme, 2016 is aimed to ensure that the senior citizens live a life of dignity and enjoy all the benefits and facilities, which are due to them by providing aid and awareness on rights of senior citizens.  

Sentinaro Longchar, Panel Lawyer MDLSA spoke on Right to Information Act, Juvenile Justice Act, NALSA (Child Friendly Legal Services to Children and their Protection) Scheme 2015, while I Imkong Jamir, Retainer Lawyer MDLSA spoke on Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005 and basic rights.  

This was followed by discussion hour. Bendangsenla, PLV MDLSA chaired the programme. After the programme, the PLVs of Tuli visited the Grace Rehabilitation Centre in Tuli.
