MDSC to hold motorsports event in December

Mokokchung, October 9 (MExN): The Mokokchung District Sports Council (MDSC) will be organizing a commemorative motorsports event in December this year to mark the 25th anniversary of the first ever motorsports event in Nagaland which was held in the year 1991. This was informed by the MDSC during a press briefing here today at Hotel Metsüben.  The commemorative event, which will include an adventure tour and an autocross competition, is being organized owing to “popular demand by the public, motorsports enthusiasts and former participants.”   It may be recalled that the first motorsports event in Nagaland was held on October 10-11, 1991 organized by MDSC, duped ‘Nagaland Autumn Rally’. MDSC has in the following years organized several motorsports events including the 2nd Nagaland Autumn Rally 1992 as part of the celebration of 35 years of Nagaland statehood. In 2006, MDSC organized the Discover Mokokchung rally and in 20008 organized the Tour de Hills as part of 50 years celebration of Mokokchung district. The second and third editions of Tour de Hills were held in 2009 and 2015 respectively, the later being organized in association with AMAM as part of 125 years celebration of Mokokchung town. It may be mentioned that MDSC is claimed to be the first district sports council in Nagaland, established February 16, 1979.   Vice President of the MDSC, Aletemsu Ao while addressing the press conference today mentioned that the said commemorative event would be held on December 14-15, 2016. The autocross competition would be held at Imkongmeren Sports Complex while the route for the adventure tour would be made known on a later date, he informed.   On the sidelines, he also informed that the MDSC is the apex sport governing body in the district that “monitor, control, facilitate and promote” sporting activities with all the respective sports associations affiliated to it. It was also disclosed that MDSC is working on conceptualizing a ‘sports village’ in the district as also an inter-school sports festival in 2017. The Tour de Hills 4 will also be organized in 2017 coinciding with Moatsü festival to promote tourism through motorsports, he also added.
