A four-member team of the Mokokchung Entrepreneurs Consortium (MEC) visited PackPlus 2019, India’s biggest exhibition on Packaging, Converting and Supply Chain industries held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi from August 28-31.

The MEC team was led by its chairman, Tsukti Longkumer, who visited and interacted with the exhibitors to get an overview of the latest products and trends in the industry as well as to establish business contacts.

The exhibition featuring more than 400 national and international exhibitors showcased new-to-market products, solutions and technologies from India and overseas representing a wide range of products and services related to packaging machines, materials & equipment, coding & marking solutions, converting, processing and supply chain, among others. Some interesting highlights of PackPlus 2019, India’s premier exhibition on packaging held at the world class exhibition center located in the heart of New Delhi, included live running machines, product launches and visitor-exhibitor matchmaking.

Significantly, the MEC closed a deal with a leading paper bag making machine manufacturer in India during their visit which is expected to be installed and made operational before year-end in Mokokchung. MEC also closed another deal with a major player in the industry to procure paper cups and paper plates making machineries.

MEC decided to procure the machines with the objective of supporting the people of Mokokchung on their campaign against plastic pollution and to offer an alternative to single-use plastic disposables in the market. With the installation and commissioning of the fully automatic paper and paper-allied product machineries, MEC expects to supply paper bags, cups and plates to Mokokchung and neighbouring districts of Tuensang, Zunheboto, Longleng and Wokha which will help mitigate the menace of single-use plastic pollution as well as open employment opportunities in the region.

The MEC visit to PackPlus 2019 was fully self-sponsored without any assistance from the state government or any external agency. By visiting the PackPlus 2019, MEC has successfully made business contacts with a number of major players in the packaging industry in India, details of which MEC is ready to share with interested entrepreneurs of Mokokchung if solicited.
