Dimapur, August 25 (MExN): The Nagaland In-Service Doctors Association (NIDA)’s call for complete shutdown of medical services on August 26 has received more support from the medical fraternity.
The Nagaland Private Doctors Association (NPDA) on Tuesday extended support to the proposed closure of healthcare services in the State.
In its statement, the NPDA condemned the alleged assault on Dr Atoka, a pathologist at the COVID-19 lab in Chümoukedima on August 21.
It extended full support and cooperation to NIDA’s decision to close down all healthcare services within Nagaland on August 26. “However, emergency services will remain functional,” it informed.
In a separate statement, the National Health Mission Employees Association Nagaland (NEAN) said that it has decided to participate in the call for complete shutdown of medical services by NIDA and requested all its members to co-operate and observe the total shut down. The NEAN demanded for justice and appealed to the concerned authority to take “necessary disciplinary action against the erring personnel to avoid such incidences in the future.”
Meanwhile, the Nagaland AYUSH Doctors Association (NADA) also condemned the incident and expressed solidarity with the course of action NIDA has decided to take in response to the same. It said that all AYUSH services in the state would be suspended on August 26.
The Drugs Control Officers Association of Nagaland (DCOAN) also joined the tirade stating that “assault of frontline workers at this time of National emergency due to COVID-19 pandemic situation is unimaginable.” Disciplinary action should be taken against all the erring police personnel so as to deter such occurrence in future, it added. The DCOAN members assured full cooperation to NIDA and its decisions in this regard.
All medical shops to be closed
While appealing to the concerned authority to deliver justice at the earliest, the Nagaland Medicine Dealers Association (NMDA) also expressed complete solidarity with the medical fraternity and informed of its resolution to close all medical shops on August 26 from 6:00am to 6:00 pm.
The Nagaland Pharmacists’ Association (NPA) also issued a statement condemning the incident and informed all its members to strictly observe the 24-hour shutdown called by NIDA on Wednesday.
It also appealed to the concerned authority to deliver justice to the aggrieved medical fraternity at the earliest.
[The Morung Express on August 25 inadvertently indicated the 24-hr shutdown date as August 25. The error is regretted.]
