Medical profession is about serving people: HM

Mokokchung, April 8 (MExN): Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Imkong L. Imchen, visited Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH) Mokokchung today for an interaction with the medical officers of Mokokchung. During the interactive session held at the IDSP Conference Hall, the Health Minister appreciated Medical Officers and staff of IMDH and their predecessors for maintaining the IMDH thus far. 

Responding to some of the constraints pointed out during the interaction, especially with regard to infrastructure and manpower, Imchen said he could not guarantee nor commit to all the requirements being fulfilled. He, however, assured to give his best with assistance from officials of the Directorate and challenged to make the IMDH work.  

Imchen asked medical officers to attend to their duties and discharge their responsibilities in the service of people. 

He maintained that though there may be shortcomings in the department, the medical profession is about serving people and therefore he regarded medical officers as “very important persons” with “very important position and responsibility”. 

He assured that the Medical Directorate will do its best for IMDH. He urged medical officers to “reciprocate” and attend to the need of the society and use available equipment at their disposal for the welfare of patients. 

Earlier, Medical Superintendent of IMDH, Dr. Bendangla, shared with the Health Minister the various constraints and concerns faced at the hospital like shortage of manpower, inadequate power and water supply, lack of upgradation of the hospital, diagnostic and therapeutic equipments etc. 

Dr. Akaba, Deputy Chief Medical Officer (Dy. CMO), who chaired the session, highlighted the urgent need of a CMO office in Mokokchung and a multi-storied building to accommodate program officers serving in Mokokchung. Besides, he said that the Mokokchung hospital needs a modern, well-equipped morgue to examine post-mortem cases. 

This is the first official visit by the Health Minister after he took charge of the Health & Family Welfare portfolio. During his visit, Imkong L. Imchen toured the IMDH complex and took first hand information on the functioning of the hospital. The minister was accompanied by Moruho Chotso, Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Dr. Tako Lemtur, Additional Director, H& FW, Dr. Kika Longkumer Deputy Director, NRHM and other officials from the Directorate.
