Medokhul Sophie’s suspension kept in ‘abeyance’

New Delhi, January 12 (MExN): The All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Friday issued a statement informing that the suspension of Medokhul Sophie has been kept in “abeyance”.

The fresh directive, issued by AICC Secretary and In-charge for Nagaland K. Jayakumar, comes after Sophie made an appeal to the AICC following his rustication by Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) President, K Therie.

Therie in the suspension order on Thursday had laid blame on Sophie for “hobnobbing with multiple communal parties”.

However, the new order informed of the appeal from Sophie where the latter had claimed that the suspension was arbitrary and that the charges are baseless and unfounded. Sophie in his appeal also stated that he was not given an opportunity to explain his side before suspension and that his case was not endorsed by the NPCC executive committee which is a requirement.

“The Appeal made by the affected party has been considered at AICC and found that adequate opportunity was not given to the person concerned to defend himself,” the directive stated.

Therefore, the action of the NPCC President is kept in abeyance “till such time the set procedure for such suspension is followed at NPCC”, the AICC Secretary added.
