Meet on AIDS control program

 Dimapur, OCT 15 (MExN): To structure a comprehensive and effective District Plan for HIV/AIDS in Dimapur as a prelude to the implementation of National Aids Control Program Phase (NACP) III, a meeting of the Dimapur District AIDS Control Committee and the stakeholders was held at the conference of the DC’s office, Dimapur. The committee comprises of 24 members. V Hekali Zhimomi, Dimapur Deputy Commissioner is also the Chairperson of the said committee. Special attention has been bestowed on Nagaland as one of the four states in the country to be selected as models towards the execution of the NACP III. Dimapur and Tuensang districts have been given priority for the carrying out of this program in Nagaland. The framework of the district plan is almost complete. Only a few details need to be incorporated into the plan which is to be submitted to the Centre. Dr Mhabemo highlighted the present condition of the disease in the district through a slideshow and also supported findings with data and other related material. 16-40 year olds form the majority of those affected by AIDS in the district and constitutes a whopping 75% of those diagnosed with the disease. Dr Vizolie emphasized on the need to plug the holes wherever necessary while working towards containing the spread of HIV/AIDS. He asked the committee members to analyse and then put forward suggestions while addressing the AIDS scenario in Dimapur. He further stressed on the need to implement the program at the grassroots level. Vizolie also advocated on the need of establishing an AIDS hospice in the district.
