Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday.

"I have tested positive for COVID-19. I am isolating myself for the required time. I have mild symptoms," Sangma tweeted on Friday.

The Chief Minister has decided not to attend the 50th Meghalaya statehood day celebration held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong, after developing symptoms on his arrival from Delhi.

Virtually addressing the statehood day celebrations, Sangma said, “I would like to apologize as I could not be present there physically as this morning I started developing cold symptoms. (So) till my tests are out, I felt it appropriate not to be part of large gatherings in the general interest of the public.”

“I also advise each and everyone to always maintain protocols and get ourselves vaccinated and ensure that we are always safe,” Sangma added.
