The Meghalaya government will soon discuss the fuel price hike after the by-elections are over.
Informing this here today, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said, “I cannot commit anything right now but the government has taken note of it and very soon after the by-elections, we (cabinet) will again sit down to discuss this issue.”
Tynsong also reminded that it was only Meghalaya, especially in the North East region, which has already reduced the taxes on fuel up to Rs 6.
“If you talk about diesel and about petrol, yes we know. Last time we have already reduced our taxes up to Rs 6 per litre and this still continues,” he said while asserting, “It is not a joke as far as Meghalaya state is concerned as we have tried our best, we have done our best (and) it is for the interest of the state and for the interest of everybody.”
Stating that the fuel price hike is something that is not under the control of the government, Tynsong said this is not happening only in India but throughout the world. He added that the government of India has already warned the international market may collapse.
He also informed that the Chief Minister had already spoken to the Union Finance minister about the crisis, while adding, “Even the Finance ministry is now working out how to come out with this problem that we have as a nation.”
Requesting the citizens not to get confused on the issue, the deputy chief minister also slammed the opposition Congress for taking advantage of the situation by blaming entirely on the MDA government.
