Mental health awareness school campaign reaches CHSS

  Dimapur, November 8 (MExN): District Mental Health Programme, Dimapur, organized a mental health awareness school campaign on November 8 at Christian Higher Secondary School (CHSS), Dimapur.   The session was started by Kikruwheno Terhuja, Clinical Psychologist on how to understand mental health and illness. She explained that children commonly face challenges in school/ college which include academic stress, peer pressure, bullying, self image etc. She highlighted that 1 in 20 people has depression and children between 13-17 years need immediate treatment for such mental issues.   The next session was taken by Dr Chikrozho Kezo, Psychiatrist and Nodal Officer, DMHP, Dimapur. He stressed on alcohol and other illicit drugs which have become very common in the Naga Society. The age group above 18 years tends to indulge and experiment various Substance Uses. Dr Kezo also highlighted on the ways and measures to prevent such addiction and seek medical help at the earliest.   “The main purpose on School campaign on Mental Health Awareness was to detect at an early phase and to prevent them from getting addicted to the various drugs,” stated a press release issued by District Mental Health Programme (DMHP), District Hospital, Dimapur.   Before the programme ended, the students were requested to fill their doubts and queries in a paper and their doubts were clarified accordingly after the sessions on how to tackle it. The participants were about 200 students from Class-9 along with their faculty.
