MGNREGA social audits held for five Mkg villages

Mokokchung, September 15 (MExN): District level Social Audit Unit (SAU) and public hearing under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) for five villages - Mokokchung Village, Ao Settsü Village, Chungtiayimsen village, Khar village and Longpa village – covering 4 administrative blocks under Mokokchung district was held at Longkumer Kilem here on September 15.  

Addressing the programme, State Resource Person Moalong said that purpose behind social audit was to bring more transparency and accountability to the system, to control corruption and improve implementation.  

The observer Ajit Kumar Verma IAS, Asst. Commissioner Mokokchung after checking the records said data entry and record maintenance such as photographs and signboards needed to be improved. Kumar also said it was the responsibility of VDBs and Village Councils to ensure that people are sensitized about MGNREGS social audit.  

During the social public hearing, 22 MGNREGS projects for financial year 2014-15 amounting approximately one crore rupees was audited.  

Meanwhile, Liboni Humtsoe, District Programme Coordinator MGNREGS & PD DRDA, Mokokchung informed that misappropriation of fund was not found during the audit except few data entry errors which, however, were rectified after cross references.
