Deacon Mhasikholie Martin Swiho was ordained as a new Priest on Friday at a solemn function held at the Kohima Local Ground.
The rite of ordination was solemnized by Most Rev. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima, which was organized by St. Francis De Sales Parish Kohima Town and hosted by Angami Catholic Union (ACU), SFS Parish Kohima.
Speaking at the felicitation program, Rev. Thoppil congratulated the new priest and revealed that Swiho was the 106th Priest ordained under the Diocese of Kohima.
Further, he urged upon the believers to pray, support and give encouraging words to Martin, as from now he will be working for God’s ministry. In his address, newly ordained Priest, Fr. Swiho said that it is a memorable day for him and thanked the Lord for choosing him to serve the Church.
He also thanked persons who have contributed much in his life and prayed for grace that he may “preserve till the end”. Speaking on behalf of the family, Sulupoyi Sebastian Swiho thanked the SFS Parish Kohima Town for shouldering the responsibility to host the event.
A brief profile of Fr. Swiho
Mhasikholie Martin Swiho was born on July 29, 1990 of Theophilus Thepurhayi Swiho and Pezalhoukhono Angela Swiho at D. Block Kohima.
He is the second child among ten siblings. He was baptized at St. Francis de Sales Parish, Kohima Town on January 20, 1991 by Fr. Jerome, SDB and received the Sacraments of Confirmation in 2003.
Swiho received his primary education at St. Andrew’s School, Thenyizumi his native village from 1994 to 1999.
The call to priesthood dawned on him in the year 2002 and his formation to priesthood began as follow: Apostolic and Minor Seminary – St. Xavier’s Seminary Jalukie; Orientation Course – Vianney Home, Chabua, Assam; Major Seminary – Good Shepherd Seminary & Salesian College Dimapur (Philosophy and BA); Regency – St. Mary’s Lozaphuhu (2012) Longsa Centre (2013); Theology – Oriens Theological College Shillong; Diaconate Ordination – June 17, 2017, and Priestly Ordination - December 29, 2017.
