Mhathung Odyuo from Nagaland wins virtual international music competition

Mhathung Odyuo, a western classical musician from Nagaland won the first place (open age vocal category) in the virtual international music competition 2020 organized by Chopin Society Malaysia in collaboration with Sunway University Malaysia.

He was born and brought up in Wokha, Nagaland, and is presently perusing his Masters in Church Music, majoring in voice from Singapore Bible College. 

Persatuan Chopin Malaysia was officially registered as a non-profit organization on September 23. The Malaysian chapter is part of an international network of Chopin Societies in more than 60 countries that come under the International Federation of Chopin Societies (IFCS). The patron of the IFCS is Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands and its headquarters is in Vienna.

More than 560 musicians in all music disciplines from five continents and 38 countries around the world competed for the event.

The virtual international music competition was held for instruments such as Double Bass, Cello, Violin, Harp, Piano, Clarinet, Percussion, Violin, Viola, Guitar, Voice, and Strings Camber Ensemble.

The competition jury members were from 16 countries, each holding an esteemed position in their respective disciplines.
