Kohima, December 15 (MExN): Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School team emerged winner of the State level quiz competition organized by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) office on December 15 in Kohima.
A press release from CEO Nagaland, Abhijit Sinha (IAS) informed that as per the directive of the Election Commission of India (ECI), the first ever ‘National Election Quiz’ was conducted across the country. Nagaland also conducted the same during November and December as follows: Intra school competitions; District round where winners of the intra school competitions participated; State round where winners of the district rounds participated.
In the State round conducted on December 15, teams of 7 districts participated and Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School (MHBHSS), Kohima was declared winner. Merio N Ngullie, Class-12 and Kekhriese Yhoshu, Class-11 of MHBHSS will represent the State in the semi final of the quiz contest scheduled to be held in New Delhi in January 2018.
At the end of the one hour quiz competition, the CEO, Abhijit Sinha addressed the participants and teachers. He said that the primary objective of ECI was to engage the young students in the age-group of 14-17 years, the future voters, in a self-learning exercise about the electoral process so as to build an informed electorate in near future.
The CEO expressed positive impression to the participants and congratulated the winners and wished them success in the national level. He also thanked all the other participants and asked them to work harder for similar competitions that will follow in near future.
Meanwhile, Sinha appealed to all to disseminate the message on increasing qualitative participation in terms of ethical and informed voting to all the parents and friends as Nagaland will go to polls in early 2018.
