Kiphire, April 8 (MExN): District Task Force Kiphire held a meeting on Mission Indradhanush phase-3 and global switch of tOPV-bOPV at DC office, Kiphire on April 4.
Dr. Rebecca Y Sema (DPO RCH-UIP) gave an insight into the global switch of tOPV (trivalent) to bOPV (bivalent) and Mission Indradhanush phase-3. As part of the global efforts towards eradication of polio, tOPV currently being used which contains all three types of polioviruses (type 1, 2 & 3), will be replaced with bOPV (type 1 & 3). The switch to bOPV will affect both routine immunization and polio campaigns.
Mission Indradhanush is a seven-day immunization drive that will be conducted from April-July. The first round will commence on April 7, 2016. She said, “The programme is to strengthen Routine Immnization (RI) in hard to reach areas especially in those places where there are no health centres and areas where migratory population is present.” The goal is to immunize 0-2 years, 5 years and pregnant mothers. 22 areas in the district have been selected for the same based on immunization coverage.
DC Kiphire encouraged the community and departments to assist the medical workers to successfully carry out the programme and achieve maximum immunization coverage.
