Micro finance consultancy training conducted in Mon

Mon, March 25 (MExN): The District Mission Management Unit (DMMU) of Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM) organized training on micro finance consultancy for the Community Cadres (CCs) and Block Level Federation (BLF) of Mon RD Block under the Financial Inclusion Initiatives Program on March 22 and 23 at DRDA Resource Centre, Mon Town.  

A press release from Rajuselie Lhousa, District Coordinator (FI), NSRLM Mon informed that Wennyei Konyak, Project Director, DRDA Mon in the inaugural function shared his enthusiasm of involving in NRLM since the programme is basically for the empowerment of rural population. The government, he said, has entrusted the womenfolk to take up the main role in NRLM as women are the pillars of the family knowing every household problem and its remedies. He encouraged the women stating that the successful implementation of NRLM can invite the banks to offer huge loan to the SHGs.  

He advised the SHGs to involve in the programme with a happy mood. The Project Director further cautioned that the failure of a member can put the rest of the group into trouble. He appealed the participants to make a practicable 5-year plan and see that each SHG is able to generate a corpus of Rs. 5 lakhs.  

M Temjen Longchar, District Program Manager, in his speech said that with the coming of NRLM program to the district, a lot of change has taken place during the last 4 years. Sharing his experience in Mon, he said the benefit is rich availability of organic vegetables. He encouraged the Block Level Federation to set targets to the SHGs for production of goods and channelize for export. He expressed optimism that once the BLF functions successfully the system of today’s business system in Mon can bring a U-turn very soon.  

In the training session, KK Sharma, Chief Manager SBI Mon Branch said, “Any department or bank exists to develop the society for which fund are put in place as per requirements of the public. The question is how the public utilize the funds which are made available." A financial institution, he added, offers two types of loans – economic activity for the poor to generate income and consumption loans for income-based category to construct house or purchase car.  

He informed the participants that the government offers various social security schemes through the banks like Atal Pension Yojana (APY). Sharma encouraged the farmers to avail KCC loan to develop their agricultural activities. Rakesh, Field Officer SBI, also shared relevant issues pertaining to his subject matter.  

Earlier in the keynote address, Rajuselie Lhousa, District Coordinator for Financial Inclusion NSRLM Mon, disclosed some achievements made during the last 3 years – Organizing saving bank account opening drive, Financial Literacy Camps (FLC) and Credit Linkage reaching all the villages.  

The training was attended by the Village Facilitators (VF) and Master Book Keepers (MBK) from all the 18 villages, besides the DMMU and BMMU staff.
