In the midst of growing division and mistrust in Naga society do you feel that the Naga Reconciliation process offers a way forward? Why?

Some of those who voted YES had this to say:

• Yes, people mindset has seen alter towards understanding despite of different individual and political interest, keeping in mind the common aspiration which make every right thinking citizen realised that, the way lead to common goal can only be achieved through understanding and reconciliation.

• Yes, reconciliation offers the way forward. Right now, it is a mockery. The GOI is having two separate parallel talks – one with IM and the other with NNPGs but at the same time they are saying that there will only be one solution. The GOI is playing with the sentiments of the Nagas and we Nagas like fools are allowing them to take us for a ride. There are two talks but at the end there will be only one solution. So why can’t our Naga leaders see this and unite. But uniting it will only increase the Naga position to negotiate a better agreement. When there are two parallel talks the GOI will work in such a way to see that they take the weaker agreement as the final one. We need reconciliation.

• Yes reconciliation is a must. All the Naga public want reconciliation, but some Naga leaders are selfish and too arrogant and do not want to give up their power for reconciliation.

• Yes, reconciliation offers a way forward. We have tried so many different ways but this process offers the most durable way forward if Nagas are willing to accept the truth and forgive each other.

• Yes, reconciliation is crucial to move forward to defend our sovereign right. But seems the initiators are either confused with their ultimate goal or deliberate attempt in manufacturing consent. As long as we stick to our ultimate concern, that is "we are not demanding sovereignty but defending it* any kind of move and steps towards reconciliation will be just an eye wash and certainly played by Indian government and NSCN (IM). Yes, reconciliation is needed among the Naga brothers and sisters but not at the cost of our Naga Sovereignty. The present reconciliation move seems to be promising but it is no better than providing medicine for headache to a sick person who is suffering with cancer. More serious resentments and violent voices are expected after the present process of reconciliation. We need transparency in our thought, words and actions. Unfortunately such transparency is a distance dream.

• Yes. Reconciliation is the way because how can a stable and just society of free and equal citizens exist when it is divided.

• Yes. Reconciliation process itself is creating a peaceful atmosphere to resolve the differences without bloodshed. The use of arms against own people was just a self destructive tsunami.

• Yes, if the Naga reconciliation process proof its sincerity for the unity of all the Nagas as one family. And not on religious, tribal and village perspective, to live together as equals and as one people..

Some of those who voted NO had this to say:

• No, our leaders are full of ego and are power mongers. They are not concerned about Naga people, they are only concerned for themselves.

• No, because unless and until India and Myanmar continue to oppress the Nagas, the Naga people will not be able to achieve reconciliation. The divide and rule policies of India and Myanmar are to blame for our division.

• No, it won't make much impact.

• No. Because only unity and cooperation brings development and peace in our state in Nagaland.

• No. The Naga Reconciliation will still take time to come to its maturity. The issue has been dragged till date without any sign of relief. The Nagas should solve this issue by coming together as ONE, rather than seeking the same path differently by different groups and associations. No Government can solve Naga issue if there exist disunity and mistrust among the Nagas. Nagas must strive together internally/within rather than depending on the external forces. The process will only be a process if we do not act with clear visions for better Nagaland. God Bless Nagaland

• No. We all know it.

• No, not in its present form and nature. Currently, the reconciliation process that is going cannot be said to be truly representative and collective in that the rural masses-who make up for more than 80% of Nagaland's population-are not engaged in the "reconciliation" process. True reconciliation will only be realized when these rural masses are taken onboard as equal stakeholders. And for this to take place, the "deliberations and discussions" on reconciliation needs to tone down on it's literature-both verbal and writings. Over-intellectualization of issues and solutions, pertaining to reconciliation, is the signature of the current form of deliberations which turns "Reality into abstract and vague theories and literature" and as such loses touch with the common masses, particularly the rural folks. In short, make the reconciliation process inclusive and practical by avoiding INTELLECTUALIZATION of issues and solutions.

Some of those who voted OTHERS had this to say:

• Division and mistrust are only by-products of miscommunication and false propaganda. The need is to have free and frank interaction often with all humbleness and the other is desisting from false propaganda. This is the way forward to Naga reconciliation. Another vital need for Nagas is to give up our arrogance, false pride and undue greed for power and money.

• Reconciliation, like everything else, in Nagaland is politicized by people who do not understand reconciliation and do not want reconciliation. This is the biggest obstacle for reconciliation.
