Mithun rearing component introduced in Gidemi village

Phek, August 29 (MExN): Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Phek is observing New India Manthan Sankalp Se Siddhi programme since August 19 with the aim of boosting the farmers and other stake holders to double the income of the farmers by 2022.

KVK Phek in a press release stated that in order to achieve the goal of doubling the income, a semi intensive mithun rearing component was introduced in the targeted village, Gidemi, Phek on August 29.  

The programme was graced by Dr. RS Gandhi, Additional Director General, Animal Science (AP&B), ICAR New Delhi and Dr. Abhijit Mitra, Director NRC on Mithun and Scientist from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Phek. Dr RK Singh, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Phek emphasized on the importance of livestock for enhancing the economy of the farmers.  

Dr. Kobu Khate, CTO, ICAR-NRC on Mithun described about the semi intensive Mithun rearing system and how it can play role in achieving higher income. Dr. Mitra, Director NRC on Mithun have emphasized on the benefits of rearing the animal and avenues to generate income through this enterprise.  

Dr. RS Gandhi, Addl Director General, ICAR handed over an insignia of Mithun and a letter of approval to contribute five Mithun heifers as new initiative under this programme. He also appealed to the farmers to take the advantage of the KVK and NRC on Mithun by adopting latest technologies for enhancing their socio-economic status of the village.  

Village Council Chairman expressed his gratitude to the institute for selecting their village as a model and the programme concluded with the vote of thanks offered by Dr. Debojyoti Borkotoky, SMS Animal Science, KVK Phek.
