Rangpo, April 12 (MExN): Mizoram defeated Nagaland by seven runs in a closely contested final to clinch the NECDC Under-23 Women’s Interstate Tournament 2026 title at Sikkim Cricket Ground, Rangpo on April 11.
In a low-scoring encounter, Mizoram’s disciplined bowling proved decisive as they defended a modest total to seal victory.
Batting first after Nagaland opted to field, Mizoram were bowled out for 75 in 20 overs.
Vanlalruatpull top-scored with 16 off 21 balls, anchoring the innings in challenging conditions.
Nagaland’s bowlers delivered an impressive performance, with Sariba Khan returning figures of 2 for 4 in four overs and Vipeni Awomi claiming 2 for 10 in four overs to restrict Mizoram.
Chasing 76 for victory, Nagaland were bowled out for 68 in 17.5 overs despite a determined effort.
Najmeen led the chase with 25 off 32 balls, while Vipeni Awomi contributed 13 off 15 to keep Nagaland in contention.
However, Mizoram’s bowlers held their nerve under pressure, with Hmangaihsangi Syhlo producing a match-winning spell of 4 for 15 in four overs to dismantle the batting line-up at crucial stages.
Syhlo was adjudged Player of the Match for her decisive performance.
Mizoram emerged champions, while Nagaland finished runners-up after a commendable campaign.
