Newmai News Network Aizawl | February 2 Mizoram is making an all out effort to provide electric power to all un-electrified villages by reaching the remotest corner of the state within this February, the state’s power & electricity department secretary H. Lalengmawia said on Friday. Two remote villages- Chamdurtlang in Lawngtlai district and New Eden in Mamit district would be provided electricity within this February, he said. Asked about energy requirement, Lalengmawia said while Mizoram requires 100 MW during peak hour, the local power generation is minimal at only 10 MW. While informing that Mizoram incurs about Rs 25 core on electric power every month, Lalengmawia urged people to make efforts to conserve more energy. On frequent power cut in the capital, H. Lalengmawia said it was due to renovation of live wires to replace them for cable and strengthening of sub-station. Mizoram launched the Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana –‘Saubhagya’ to ensure electrification of all willing households in the state in rural as well as urban areas and according to Lalengmawia, the government is working on Detail Project Report (DPR) which will be submitted on completion. Under this scheme, free electric connection would be provided to BPL families, not covered under DDUGJY scheme and non-BPL families can also have power connection at the rate of Rs. 500.
