Former Mizoram Chief Minister and state Congress president, Lal Thanhawla alleged that Mizoram is facing financial problem due to financial mismanagement by the state government.
Addressing a political session at Congress Bhavan in Aizawl on Friday, Lal Thanhawla alleged that the Mizo National Front (MNF) government headed by Zoramthanga is in "complete trouble" due to financial mismanagement. He further alleged that various treasuries under the government have been drained of money owing to which the government could not release fund except employees' salaries. "The government could not pay even contract bills", the former Chief Minister added.
The five time former chief minister then claimed that all permanent assets of the state were built during the Congress 'regime'. Thanhawla further claimed that the ongoing construction of railway line between Bairabi and Sairang near Aizawl and a cross-border road under the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP) to connect south-east Asian countries are the "by-products" of the Congress government.
He also claimed that the state's medical college and all important institutions, among others were built during the Congress government.
According to Thanhawla, survey and investigation to construct railway line till Kawrpuichhuah in the southern most part of the state were already completed during the Congress rule. The Congress leader also claimed that the "Almighty had helped the Congress ruled Mizoram for five terms because it has been a blessing for the people over the years".
"The Congress should go ahead with its members united in one accord. We are waiting to form the next government for the sixth term," Thanhawla said.
Congress treasurer Zodintluanga, who also spoke on the occasion, hailed Thanhawla as a charismatic leader, "whose far sighted vision has brought various developments" in the state.
He further said that unlike Zoramthanga, Thanhawla fulfilled his vision to develop the people as well as the state by successfully implementing New Land Used Policy (NLUP), Aizawl water supply scheme phase-II and Lunglei greater water supply scheme.
He added that the Congress president also brought Mizoram to the national limelight by promoting sports, established medical college and constructed Turial Hydro Electric Power project to make the state become self-dependent in power.
