Newmai News Network Aizawl | September 19 The Mizoram government has announced Rs 10 lakh cash reward to young Indian hockey star from Mizoram, Lalremsiami, who was part of the Indian women hockey team that won silver medal at the Asian Games in Jakarta recently. Mizoram Sports minister, Zodintluanga recently had announced in a public address that the state government would give Rs 10 lakh to the sports person f besides the existing Rs 1 lakh sports incentive or honorarium. The minister also said that one individual housing unit has been reserved for Lalremsiami under RAY project at Falkland neighbourhood here. An 18- year-old Lalremsiami is the first among nine international hockey players from Mizoram to have won a medal at Asian Games. He is currently camping at Bhopal for the upcoming Youth Olympic Games to be held in Argentina next month. One Lalfamkima, a resident of College Veng locality in Kolasib of Mizoram had recently donated a plot of land for hockey ground to the state government, which would be named after Lalremsiami. Besides the cash reward given by the state government, North Eastern Council (NEC) has given Rs 5 lakh cash reward to the sports person. Meanwhile, leaders of Hockey Mizoram expressed happiness for the Rs 10 cash reward announced by the state government. Hailing Lalremsiami for the achievement and bringing laurel not only to India but also Mizoram in particular, Hockey Mizoram president and MLA Hmingdailova Khiangte told reporters on Wednesday that the association would accord a warm welcome reception when she return to Mizoram. Khiangte also urged the state government to construct a hockey ground at Aizawl to promote young hockey players.
