Aizawl, November 15(NNN): The main opposition in Mizoram, the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) on Friday alleged that the state government's proposed state games, a face saving tactic. Addressing a meeting at the party office here, ZPM media cell chairman PC Vanlalruata alleged that the Mizo National Front (MNF) government is planning to organise Mizoram State Games as it could not provide financial assistance of Rs 3 lakh to households, the promise it had made before the assembly polls in November last year. The ZPM leader said that the MNF promised to help every household in the form of financial assistance amounting to Rs 3 lakh each under its flagship programme Socio-Economic Development Policy (SEDP). The proposed state games is just a face saver to cover up the MNF’s failure to distribute the money, he alleged.
The ruling MNF and opposition legislators are in great dismay as the government faces financial crunch, he said.
Vanlalruata further said that the manner in which the state government is planning to organise state games does not reflect the objective to promote sports in the state but instead a face saver to conceal its failure to fulfill its pre-poll promises. The government headed by Zoramthanga has no knowledge of how to govern the people and run the government, he added. The Mizoram government will organise state games from December 9 to 13 as part of its endeavour to promote sports in the state. The government has allocated Rs 150 lakh for the purpose.
During the 5-day event, competition will be held in at least 40 disciplines under the supervision of 32 sports associations. Competition will be held on constituency wise.
