Kohima, July 16 (MExN): Model Christian College conducted a two day workshop on innovative teaching on July 12 and 13 with Dr. Euodia Bahun Myrthong, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, NEHU, and Calmy R. Kharlukhi, Senior Lecturer, St. Mary’s College of Teacher Education, Shillong, as resource persons.
The two day workshop was organized by the Departments of Education and English, and sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research, North Eastern Regional Centre, NEHU Campus, Shillong, stated a press release. Dr. Luke Rymbai, Principal welcomed the resource persons and the participants while the keynote address was delivered by Hekishe Sema, Principal, State College of Teacher Education, Kohima, who highlighted on the importance and the role of teachers to inspire and to be updated with modern methods of teaching.
Dr. Euodia opened day one of the workshop with a brief introduction of the participants and underlined the importance and practices of modern teaching. She further mentioned that, when there is willingness to change, creativity and innovation can be developed.
Calmy emphasized on the different strategies of teaching involving technology. She further stressed on the constructivist method where students construct their unique understanding of a subject based on their past experiences with teachers as facilitators.
The participants were divided into seven groups and were assigned to do a mock class presentation on the second day of the workshop, which was followed by discussion and feedback. All together thirty two participants attended the workshop.
The workshop concluded with a valedictory function chaired by Thethem, Assistant Professor, Department of English. The summary of the workshop was delivered by Dr. Nungshikokla, Vice Principal, and vote of thanks by Jamk hanmoi, Assistant Professor, Department of Education.
