Screening test and medical checkup during the World Hearing Day at Government Middle School, Alempang ward, Mokokchung on March 3.
Mokokchung, March 3 (MExN): World Hearing Day was observed under the theme ‘To hear for life, listen with care’ at Government Middle School, Alempang ward, Mokokchung on March 3.
A press release from the Mokokchung Chief Medical Officer Office stated that, chairing the programme Dr Temsuyanger, DPO (NCD) addressed the students as well as the faculty on the theme and the significance of observing the day.
Dr Imsongienla, MO (RBSK), gave a short health talk on ‘deafness and hearing loss.’ She stressed on the importance of hearing and also educated the audience on the functioning of the ears, reasons leading to hearing loss/deafness, its symptoms and the necessary prompt action to be undertaken. She encouraged safe listening habits to safeguard against hearing loss/deafness.
The programme was followed by screening test and medical checkup for the students of the school. Altogether a total of 180 students were screened and treated with medical aid and 15 students were screened for hearing loss.
Kohima: In Kohima, the office of the Chief Medical Officer with Naga Hospital Authority, ENT department headed by Dr Lozinu Peseyie, Sr Specialist, ENT observed a World Hearing Day at Government Middle School, D Khel Seikhazou.
Dr Lozinu Peseyie, Sr Specialist in her address mentioned about how important a hearing is, citing to a point saying that people who face hearing loss deemed to isolate themselves from the peer group. She also highlighted about WHO hearing impairment data and urged the students to come for screening as it’s a preventable health issues.
Adding, to the subject, she informed the students that screening and free distribution of medicine will be done.
A total of 63 students from class A to class 2 were screened by identifying hearing problems, out of which 21 students found with wax, 9 identified with conductive hearing loss and seem to be the very first ear check-up. 12 students had a hearing test of Audiometry, 6 students wax removed during screening and called for review/follow up at NHAK. All patients who required treatment were distributed free medicines, IEC materials for more information on hearing loss programme. Altogether, the school enrolment has a total of 300 students and 18 teaching staffs.
The programme was attended by Dr Amenla Jamir, ZLO/Nodal officer (NCD), Dr Lozinu Peseyie, Sr Specialist (ENT) and staff, MO (RBSK) and staff, DPM and media officer.
