‘Exempt the commercial vehicles ferrying goods from Dimapur to Mokokchung and other districts on humanitarian grounds’
DIMAPUR, JUNE 2 (MExN): The Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce & Industries (MCCI) has made a strong appeal to the different Naga political groups to extend their solidarity to the Naga people living in the Northern and Eastern part of Nagaland during the ongoing indefinite bandh called by the apex body of the Ao Community – Ao Senden since May 28.
A press note from the MCCI stated that the business community, spearheaded by the MCCI, with an aim to make available the essential commodities in the market, has made arrangements to transport goods from Dimapur to Mokokchung. “However, it is also well known that taxes from different Naga political groups are rampant in Nagaland, which in turn makes the prices of essential commodities sky-rocket in order to make up the losses incurred due to the rampant tax collection”, stated the MCCI.
Therefore, the MCCI has appealed to the different national groups to kindly exempt the commercial vehicles ferrying goods from Dimapur to Mokokchung and other districts on humanitarian grounds, “since the people of the northern and eastern part of Nagaland are undergoing an extraordinary situation as of now. The support from every section of the society is needed in order not to make the general public suffer due to unchecked price rise”.
The MCCI felt that if the different Naga political groups extend their cooperation and exempt the commercial vehicles transporting essential goods from Dimapur, this would go a long way in lessening the burden on the public since the freight charges and taxes paid during the transportation have to be exacted from the public at the retail shops.
“The journey from Dimapur to Mokokchung is long but the MCCI is working tirelessly to ensure that the market never runs short of essential commodities and that the price remain constant; it is our sincere belief that the different Naga political groups would show solidarity with the Naga people in this tiring times and exempt the long-distance commercial vehicles ferrying goods from Dimapur to the Northern and eastern part of Nagaland”, stated the MCCI.
The MCCI, while appreciating the Mokokchung DC directing the Kohima Municipal Council, Tseminyu Town Council and Wokha Town Council to exempt the vehicles transporting goods to Mokokchung of their toll tax, has also made a strong appeal to the different Municipal and town councils to “kindly consider the sincere appeal of the Mokokchung DC and exempt toll tax during the bandh period”.
“In times like this, the Naga people need to stand up together and therefore the MCCI as a public service provider will work tirelessly so that there is no scarcity of essential commodities in the market. To achieve this end, we solicit the cooperation and goodwill of every section of the society, organizations and agencies, so that the public would not suffer”, stated the MCCI in its press note which was issued by Moasangba Jamir, President and Limalenden Longkumer, Info & Publicity Secretary.
