MOKOKCHUNG, SEPTEMBER 11 (MExN): The District Level Routine Immunization (RI) Micro Planning and RI strengthening training was held on September 10 at the CMO Conference Hall in Mokokchung. The training featured a team of experts including Dr Sheila Longkumer, SMO WHO; Dr Longri Kichu, SPC UNICEF; Dr Pangjung Pongen, SBC Consultant UNICEF; and Imli Longkumer, RPO-UNDP from the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare.
In his welcome address, Dr Kibangkumba, Chief Medical Officer of Mokokchung, urged participants to ensure thorough and accurate micro planning to prevent any family from being overlooked. He emphasized the critical role of immunization in reducing child mortality and morbidity, despite ongoing issues with vaccine refusal.
Dr Sheila Longkumer provided a PowerPoint presentation highlighting the current status of Routine Immunization in Mokokchung. She noted that while the population census is high, the headcount is significantly lower, underscoring the need for comprehensive coverage. She stressed the necessity for a quality communication plan, biannual headcount surveys, and additional training for ASHAs on the National Immunization Schedule to enhance service quality.
The training also covered important topics such as high-risk areas, eVIN (Electronic Vaccine Intelligence Network), UWIN (Universal Immunization Program Web Portal), and cold chain and logistics management. Participants engaged in practical sessions to learn how to complete RI micro planning forms accurately. The event was attended by a diverse group of stakeholders, including Medical Officers, ANMs, CHOs, DPM, BPMs, DCM, BACs, Urban Consultants, and representatives from WHO, UNICEF, and UNDP.
