Mon and Tseminyu register wins in Senior Men’s Inter-District Tournament qualifiers

Tseminyu, March 16 (MExN): Mon registered a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Kiphire, while hosts Tseminyu edged past Phek by three wickets in contrasting matches of the Senior Men’s Inter-District Tournament Qualifiers played here on Sunday.

In the first qualifier at Ziphenyu Ground, Mon opted to field after winning the toss and restricted Kiphire to 109 all out in 19.3 overs. Despite early setbacks, Sani Das launched a strong counterattack, scoring a brisk 45 off 24 balls to push the total past the 100-run mark.

Mon’s disciplined bowling effort was led by Stephen Patton, who claimed 3 for 28 in four overs, while Mom8n supported well with figures of 2 for 21.

Chasing the target, Mon reached 112 for 3 in 15.3 overs. Lanpang P Konyak anchored the innings with an unbeaten 51 off 31 balls, guiding his side to victory and earning the Player of the Match award.

In the second qualifier at RSA Ground, Phek posted a competitive 137 for 3 in 20 overs after being put in to bat. Thepuvet provided late momentum with a quick unbeaten 40 off 16 balls to help his team finish strongly.

Tseminyu’s bowling was spearheaded by Prinal Deb, who returned figures of 2 for 17 in four overs, while Rohit Kumar Sah chipped in with 1 for 14.

In reply, Tseminyu chased down the target with 141 for 7 in 16.3 overs in a tense finish. Sinilo Kent played a crucial role with a composed unbeaten 42 off 36 balls, anchoring the chase to guide his team to victory. His performance earned him the Player of the Match award.

Among the bowlers for Phek, Vekro Rakho picked up 3 for 24 in three overs, while Vekuta Khamo claimed 2 for 22.

The qualifier round produced two engaging contests, with Mon advancing after a clinical performance against Kiphire and Tseminyu holding their nerve to secure a narrow win over Phek.

The tournament continues on March 17 with Tuensang taking on Zunheboto at RSA Ground and Peren facing Longleng at Ziphenyu Ground.
