Mon district plans for success of Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign

The Mon District Task Force on Measles-Rubella (MR) Vaccination Campaign held its first meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall on July 14.  

DC Mon K. Thavaseelan (IAS), who also chaired the meeting, urged the entire stakeholder to support and to be a part of Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign starting from October 3, 2018.  

For the successful conduct of immunization in the district, the DC requested to all the concern departments, communities, churches, NGOs and village councils to play a vital role for proper implementation and to reach out to the target age group of 9 months to 15 years. He also requested all parents and teachers to ensure their children to be vaccinated of this life-threatening disease.  

Dr. Danish Suhail, RRT World Health Organization, said that India is co-signatory to the goal of measles elimination and rubella/Congenital Rubella Control (CRS) by 2020. Measles is one of the leading causes of death among young children even though a safe and cost-effective vaccine is available and Rubella is a contagious, generally mild viral infection that occurs most often in children and young adults. Rubella infection in pregnant women may cause fatal death or congenital defects known as Congenital Rubella Syndrome (CRS), he added.  

Dr. Danish mentioned that the target age group for this immunization is 9 months to 15 years irrespective of earlier immunization status or disease where Just one shot MR campaign and to reach 100% eligible children. He also spoke on Implementation Strategy on MR Vaccine Campaign like Schools, Community etc.  

Dr. Imtijunshi Aier, DIO Mon, spoke on the roles and responsibilities on support of departments other than H&FW like school and mass education, women and child development, Home Affairs, ST/SC development, Minority and Backward classes welfare, Information and Public Relations, Labour and Employment and Housing and Urban Development. He also stressed on departments of Road Transport, Defence, Sport & Youth Services, Panchayati Raj and Tribal development for effective MR campaign.  

Dr. Kechongol Sophie, CMO Mon urged all concerns to be a part to make history which is in our doorsteps to eliminate Measles-Rubella by 2020. “Co-ordinate each other and give our best for our future generations,” he added.  

Various Officers from Medical department, 35th Assam Rifles, Superintendent of Police, District Programme Officer (RCH&UIP), District Welfare Chief Officer, District Public Relations Officer and District Administrators of Mon and representatives from WHO, UNDP, UNICEF, Red Cross Society, DPO (ICDS), KBBB, Konyak Union, KNSK, KSU, Jama Masjid Committee, World Vision, Catholic Community, Hindu Community, Media, Private Schools and KBCM participated during the Measles Rubella Campaign meeting.
