Mon prepares for disaster management

Mon, April 14 (DIPR): Regarding possibility of an earthquake on India - China border on April 14 and 15 as published in local dailies, an emergency meeting of the District level disaster management committee was held at DC’s conference hall, Mon on April 14, under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Mon, Dinesh Kumar IAS.
The Chairman while welcoming the members present highlighted the constitutions of various sub-committees, their duties and responsibilities in times of disasters in the district. The sub-committees constituted are:  (1) Dissemination Team, (2) Search and Rescue Team, (3) First Aid Team, (4) Sanitation Team, (5) Patrolling & Vigilance Team, (6) Damage Management Team, (7) Counseling Team, (8) Carcass Disposal Team, (9) Relief Team, (10) Central Management Team and (11) Coordination & Linkage Team.
He also advised the members present to know the roles and responsibilities of the respective team and urged them to respond to the Control Room when disaster strikes.  He also emphasized the need to sensitize all Government employees and the NGOs regarding various disasters and added that although disaster cannot be stopped but good coordination of the members and preparedness can minimize the lost of live and property. Stressing on the need of manpower and volunteers in times of disasters, the DC called upon the NGOs to arrange volunteers and manpower from NGOs. He also urged upon all the Government officers to keep their inventory machineries ready and inform their staffs to respond to the disaster when it strikes. He added that the meeting is being held to take stock of the preparedness and response in case a disaster strikes as predicted and published in the local dailies.
The meeting was attended by the Government officers, members of District Level Disaster Management Committee and the representatives from the NGOs.
