Mon to get five bridges

Dimapur, August 2 (MExN): Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has assured construction of five bridges between Sonari and Mon. An educational-campaign would also be undertaken. The Chief Minister assurance to build the bridges was in response to a representation submitted by the Konyak Students Union (KSU). 

A delegation of the KSU was camping in Kohima to approach the Chief Minister as well as heads of government departments, to highlight various issues pertaining to Mon district.

The KSU submitted a representation where construction of five bridges between the mentioned areas was highlighted. The Chief Minister was informed that Mon Bridge, which was built in the 1950s, has not seen any major repairing for long and for this, transport and communication in the area has been hindered. The route is the only lifeline of Mon district, KSU president Manpong Konyak and General Secretary T Khongjah Loungs said. The CM also assured sponsorship of an education campaign in the areas.

The KSU delegation also submitted a representation of the Minister of Health& Family Welfare Dr TM Lotha, highlighting the grievances of the Mon Civil Hospital.

The problems being faced by the hospital include shortage of doctors and unavailability of basic amenities. The same was apprised to the Medical Director, it was informed. Minister for Transport was also approached for resumption of NST bus service between Mon and Tuensang. 

The union informed that they are yet to meet with Minister of School Education while SCERT Director was approached for a workshop for local teachers at Mon. The KSU also apprised elected members of Mon district of the various problems being faced by the people of the district. 

Meanwhile, the KSU delegation will be attending the Eastern Nagaland Students’ Federation mid-term session which is to be held at Longleng on August 3. Also, the KSU’s 59th mid-term session will be held on August 17 at the Mon Council Hall. All unit presidents and General Secretaries have been requested to attend the session positively at 10am.
