‘Mongmong’ harvest festival of Sangtam Nagas celebrated

‘Mongmong’ one of the biggest harvest festival of the Sangtam Nagas was celebrated across Nagaland with local union and village hosting the traditional event.
Co-inciding with the Mongmong festival Langzanger Union Kiphire Town (LUKT) celebrated it silver jubilee on September 3 at Agape School, Kiphire Town.
Highlighting the importance of Mongmong festival Thrikyuse Sangtam HD GB Langzanger Village said that festival is the time of giving and celebrating the harvest blessing with friends, family and neighbors which this generation should learn from the good values and customs of our forbearers, who stood for truth and peace.
He called upon the gathering to revisit our treasured culture and tradition to live together for the common progress and unity asserting that present condition in today society calls for understanding our traditional and culture.
Speaking as the main speaker at the event P. Achumse Sangtam General Secretary, United Sangtam Likhum Pumji (USLP) congratulated Langzanger Union for successful hosting silver jubilee stating that foundation built by the pioneers should be carried forward by the present generation for the growth of the Society.
He stated that the present turmoil society is facing today calls for honest introspection and understanding therefore he urged upon the citizens of Langzanger to be change makers in the spirit of Mongmong.
Pointing out that Langzanger village has been a good contributor with innovative ideas towards social cause he asked the gathering to continue to carry forward the same so that the village not only grows but Society as a whole benefits from it.
He further added that festival such as Mongmong should help us reconnect with our culture and tradition so that our rich culture and tradition which our ancestors resolutely preserved is handed down to the next generation in the same way we inherited it from our ancestors.
Delivering a short speech Lerimong Sangtam asked the gathering to be an agent of change and be an instrument of hope for the voiceless.
Mongmong is celebrated from September1-6. It is one of the biggest festivals of Sangtam.
Earlier the programme was chaired by Imnatoshi Sangtam and Lumpila, welcome address by Taipise Anthony Planning Chairman and vote of thanks by C. Lesimong Sangtam.
