Montek releases Education report

Dimapur, January 16 (MExN): The Annual Status of Education Report for 2007 was released today by Montek Singh Ahluwalia at Teen Murti Bhavan, New Delhli. Nagaland also features in the report and the ground root level survey shows an improvement in reading levels and compared to national levels, Nagaland is in the higher bracket. Besides facilitating ASER, Pratham made its fray into Nagaland through the SSA for a pilot programme in 4 districts in September 2006. Starting January 2007 Pratham launched ‘Read Nagaland’ through which it is setting mobile libraries to every village in the State. So far the NGO has set up libraries in 889 villages. The libraries function as intensive learning centres where activities and games are played to teach children basis like alphabets, vowels, informed Pratham Nagaland in a press note.
