Mopungchuket Tourism logo, multi-utility hall inaugurated

The Mopungchuket Community Tourism Society (MCTS) organised the celebration of Tsüngremmong festival at Longrangtenem Park, Mopungchuket village, Mokokchung on August 2. During the occasion, a multi-utility hall was also inaugurated by Keduosie-ü M Rio, Director, Department of Tourism, Government of Nagaland.

Keduosie-ü M Rio, Director, Department of Tourism unveiled the Mopungchuket Tourism logo and spoke on behalf of the Tourism Department. She began her speech by acknowledging the effort of the MCTS in organising such a grand Tsüngremmong festival.

The Director mentioned about the project which began in 2013 under NEC but could not be completed due to various hurdles and the pandemic in between. She said that the hall and the various development works is an investment and ‘the building is now in the hands of its true owners, that is the people of Mopungchuket.’

She added that it is the role of the people to utilize the available resources to its maximum potential and encouraged the MCTS to work continuously towards promoting tourism in the state and also to influence the young people and help them in employment. She added that the Tourism Department is ready to help the society in whichever way they can.

Vision Mopungchuket Tourism 

Limalenden Longkumer, Convenor, Mopungchuket Community Tourism Society presented a note on Vision Mopungchuket Tourism where he highlighted the history of the village stating that Mopungchuket is a land of history, cultural heritage and mythology. He also mentioned the various tourist attraction sites and tourism activities functioning in the village. 

He mentioned that Longrangtenem Park will be the second community owned tourist site after Sungkotenem Park and the society hopes to make the park accessible and more attracting for tourist. Longkumer also stated that the village had more than 9000 visitors between 2018 to 2020. With the COVID pandemic, tourism activities in the village was put to a standstill but the society hopes to revive and increase the number of tourists visiting the village.

The Convenor also said that Mopungchuket will not be kept a secret as a tourist village, as mentioned in one of the leading national newspapers, and will work towards promoting tourism in Nagaland and enabling an environment for the tourism industry while boosting the village economy. He also urged for handholding from the tourism department to enhance tourism in the village.

 The welcome address was given by Village Council Chairman, Mopungchuket followed by a folk song by Mopungchuket Medemsanger Putu. Tazülenden Cultural Society, Mopungchuket Watsü Telen, MALT, ARSA and Mopungchuket Medemsanger Putu presented various cultural items at the festival which was followed by Tsüngremmong feast.
