Dimapur, November 24 (MExN): More districts followed suit in launching the “I am Child Rights Ambassador” in view of the celebration of Children’s week from November 14 to 20. The programme is initiated by Child Protection Services, Department of Social Welfare.
Longleng: District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) Longleng, Department of Social Welfare in collaboration with District Administration Longleng conducted the programme at the DC Conference Hall on November 18, where Deputy Commissioner Longleng, M Shayung Phom launched the Child Rights Ambassador.
Phom expressed appreciation to the department and said it was fortunate that schools have the privilege of Child Right Ambassadors. He said family, school and every adult citizen have the responsibility to provide care and protection to the children as they are the assets and future leaders of the society. Yangthriba Sangtam, District Child Protection Officer, Longleng shared the key note address to the participants. Despite multiple legal provisions, schemes and programmes adopted by the Government for the protection of children, there were still many children being denied of their rights, Sangtam said while adding hundreds of children are subjected to neglect, abuse and in vulnerable circumstances.
The programme was chaired by Vesevolu Rhakho ADEO (JJB), while welcome note was delivered by Thepusato Curhah and vote of thanks was pronounced by Menyuzenuo Belho, Social Worker.
Tuensang: In Tuensang, the launching programme was held at Tuensang HQ on November 20 at DC's Conference hall organized by District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) in collaboration with District Administration. The programme was chaired by Thekrusolie Vakha, Legal cum Probation Officer (LCPO). In his welcome and keynote address, NS Khaikho, District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) Tuensang highlighted the Child Rights – Right to survival, development, participation and protection and various child protection mechanisms available. Ningsanglemba, President, Chang Khulei Setshang (CKS) requested the concerned officials and stakeholders in implementing child rights in the district to be sincere and give their utmost commitment in working for the rights and welfare of the children for a better future.
Mohammed Ali Shihab (IAS), DC, Tuensang highlighted his personal experience in dealing with issues related to children. He further appealed for co-operation from every sector to work for child rights and to considered it as a missionary job and provide Godly touch to our children. Vote of thanks was delivered by R Yimkhong, Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee.
Wokha: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Wokha, Orenthung Patton launched the “I am Child Rights Ambassador” on November 19 at a programme organized by the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Wokha. The DCPU appreciated the effort of Chubainla Jamir, Society Director CPS and Sarah Ritse, Secretary and Chairperson, CPS Nagaland for initiating the programme to reach out to the children at the grassroots level. The DC in his speech encouraged the students to know their rights first and spread the news to their friends in the school. Rights should always be accompanied by responsibilities, the DC said while encouraging the students to report to the DCPU and CWCs of any abuse that happened in their school. He also appreciated the DCPU for their contribution and activities towards the protection of children. District Child Protection Officer, Sekho Dawhuo in his keynote address highlighted the objective of the programme which is “I am Child Rights Ambassador.”
Superintendent, Observation Home Wokha, highlighted the four main Rights of children and further requested the public “not to use children for their dirty work which puts the children in danger and take away their rights.”
Zunheboto: District Child Rights Ambassador programme was formally launched in Zunheboto by Deputy Commissioner Zunheboto, Peter Lichamo on November 19 at DC’s conference hall. As per DIPR report, through this programme a child is empowered so that they can empower each other and will learn to speak out if anyone abridges their rights. DC Zunheboto Lichamo briefly highlighted on the child rights. Lichamo also added that children can be harassed at their respective schools and homes and assured that no harassment will be let off under his administration. He also suggested for counseling and guidance in the schools and urged the department to launch the Child Rights Ambassadors in each and every school under the district. Earlier, the programme was chaired by J Khetoholi Yepthomi, LCPO, DCPU and Vivi pronounced the invocation. Key note address was given by Ruzonuo Rita Rutsa, DCPO Zunheboto which was followed by speech and launching of Child Rights Ambassador. Kito, PO, IC delivered the closing note.
