Mokokchung | August 25

Close on the heels of MCCI issuing a public advisory against fraudulent sellers of fake branded electronic and home appliances on August 23 last, another team of such sellers were caught today in Mokokchung town engaging in the same business.

A concerned citizen informed some of the registered electronic dealers about the news of the sellers being seen engaging in door to door sales of their products at Salangtem Ward, Mokokchung town. The registered dealers went to the locality and brought them along with their products to the office of the Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI).

At the MCCI office, it was revealed that the sellers - Naved, Mohammed Nafis and Sonu, all hailing from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh and reportedly based in Dibrugarh, Assam along with their driver Md. Nijamuddin from Imphal, Manipur had arrived Mokokchung from Kohima late last evening and had put up at the government-run lodge Circuit House, Mokokchung. The sellers all had in their possession ILPs issued by the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, Nagaland with the “Guarantor’s Details” column in the document not showing any details. It was disclosed by the ILP holders that they had paid Rs.150/- each for the ILPs to an agent in Dimapur to get their entry permits.

MCCI president Tsukti Longkumer while talking to media persons at the MCCI office chamber said that such unethical businessmen selling fake branded products were not only harming the businesses of the genuine registered dealers but also causing much loss to the customers as the fake products are always defective and does not come with any warranty. He also conveyed that the customers are informed about the difference between genuine and fake branded products and that they buy only from genuine registered dealers who sell their products with proper warranty receipts and documents.

The fake branded goods sellers caught today were selling counterfeit SONY Bravia LED television sets. There were only 5 sets in their possession and were traveling in a hired Maruti Van with the registration number MN01X 7174. Interestingly, the televisions sets and their packing cartons caught today were identical to the ones caught earlier save for the ‘brand’ names. The earlier sellers were caught selling fake Samsung products while the sellers caught today were found to be selling fake Sony Bravia TVs.
