Morung Express News

DIMAPUR OCTOBER 14: Proving amply that despite the standing ban, since the last 10 years or so against issuance of gun licenses as well as “ongoing investigations”, illegal gun licenses are still being issued clandestinely by personnel in concerned departments as proved by the detection of 94 fake licenses recently in Dimapur. The Dimapur administration has detected 94 more fake/illegally issued gun licenses out of the 108 ones submitted for renewal/verification. Administrative officers in charge of verifying the licenses told The Morung Express that more fake/illegally issued booklets were expected since most of the districts were still yet to completely submit all the licenses slated for renewal or confirmation. According to latest records maintained by the administration there are about 9,537 gun licenses, the most recent batch, which are still yet to be verified for authenticity. It is also learnt that most of the Districts in Nagaland still haven’t submitted for verifying the gun licenses. Latest records made available to this paper shows that Mokokchung has till now submitted 2166 gun licenses, Zunheboto 608, Kiphire 404, Wokha 2863, Kohima 132, Mon 2296 and Tuensang district 1068 gun licenses which are still yet to be ‘cross-checked.’ More fake/ illegally issued booklets are expected to be detected from all this.

An ADC told this paper that the licenses were being illegally issued to individuals who are from other states like Maharastra, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. He said that the verifying administration was still awaiting more from other districts.
