Movement of light vehicles have been allowed to ply through an old bailey bridge today on NH- 29 near Mesulumi under Phek district where portion of the road was completely washed away on July 24, an official told The Morung Express this evening.
However, movement of heavy vehicles has been restricted till further notice. Several heavy vehicles loaded with essential commodities stranded on this area since July 24.
The district administration informed the public not to panic for the essential commodities at Phek district HQ as presently there is no shortage of stock including fuel. Meanwhile, under the initiative of Phek Deputy Commissioner and Chairman District Disaster Management Authority, an emergency meeting was held today in the office chamber of ADC Pfutsero.
The meeting discussed the issues related to road damage caused by landslide due to torrential rain in Pfutsero sub division with BRO, PWD (R&B), Police, APRO to bring about immediate ways and means to restore washed away road on NH 29 near Mesulumi village approximately 15 km away from Pfutsero town and regulation of an alternative approach road from Pfutsero to Chizami via Tsupfume, Thetsumi and Chizami village.
It also resolved that movement of heavy vehicles will not be allowed till further notice, however, light vehicles will be allowed to ply in the NH-29 with immediate effect.
The village councils of Tsupfume, Thetsumi and Chizami have been requested to organize road side clearing work on July 27 in their respective village jurisdiction to clear the approach road from Pfutsero to Chizami via Tsupfume, Thetsumi and Chizami village to facilitate the movement of heavy vehicles carrying essential commodities to Phek, Meluri and Kiphire atleast by 29 July.
For regulation of both heavy and light vehicles, the traffic police under SDPO Pfutsero and Chizami OC will closely coordinate and regulate the movement of vehicles especially those heavy vehicles carrying essential commodities on two hourly alternative basis.
It was also informed that there shall be a total ban of log vehicle movement with immediate effect.
