Dimapur, August 4 (MExN): Nagaland Member of Parliament S Supongmeren Jamir on Tuesday urged the Centre to strengthen infrastructure and academic facilities at the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Jalukie, a constituent college of the Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour in Parliament, Jamir appealed to the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying to sanction key developmental projects for the institution.
The MP sought the construction of a Veterinary Clinical Complex, upgradation of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnostic (VLD) facilities for efficient animal disease diagnosis, and the introduction of veterinary telemedicine and mobile animal health services to improve outreach and service delivery.
Jamir said the proposed interventions would enhance the quality of veterinary education, strengthen animal healthcare services and build capacity in the livestock sector in line with national development goals.
He noted that the college attracts students from different parts of the country and said improved infrastructure would benefit both students and faculty while helping the institution develop into one of the country's leading veterinary colleges.
The MP urged the Union Ministry to accord priority to the proposals, stating that investment in veterinary education is vital for improving livestock productivity, strengthening food security and generating employment opportunities in the rural economy.
