MP KG Kenye urges central government to review CAB

Nagaland MP to the Rajya Sabha, KG Kenye with other MPs  protesting the CAB in New Delhi on November 29.

Kohima, November 29 (MExN): In protest against the Centre’s move to introduce the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) 2016 in the Parliament, the lone Rajya Sabha MP from Nagaland, KG Kenye joined opposition MPs from the North East in New Delhi cautioning the Centre not to impose a diktat on the NE States without a thorough consultation with the stakeholders of the region.

Opponents of the bill demand and amendment  of the proposed Bill to suit the situation of the North East so as to avoid any further controversies which otherwise could snowball.

Speaking to a television news agency, the Nagaland MP said the CAB is very sensitive to the North East States as the region is bounded by 5 countries and urged the Centre Government to re-consider its imposition.

A press release from the PRO to the Rajya Sabha MP stated that “Kenye had also voiced strong opposition in the Parliament ahead of the Lok Sabha election against the Bill in its original form when the BJP Government in the Centre was so determined to pass the Bill in the Upper House against the wishes of the NE States.”

The MP meanwhile called for thorough consultation with each of the North East states before any move to implement the bill is made.
